a day gone by

Few knew, and more could care less that Ash Wednesday occurred a few days ago. Annually, Ash Wednesday, serves as a memorial, for a day of reckoning of ones mortality. That death would sooner or later claim us as its prey but with a remedy, For it’s recorded, “Inasmuch as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.” (cp. Hebrews 2:14).

Because, it’s scripted, as self evident, “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground. For out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and dust you shall return.” (cp. Genesis 3:19).

With such a remembrance ashes are smeared upon the forehead of the repentant, and told to go and sin no more because the journey to resurrection Sunday meant that the repentant is seen as being righteous in God’s sight. (cp. 2 Corinthians 5:21).

During the weeks between Ash Wednesday and Resurrection Sunday. People are encouraged to give up something through fasting. And other choice enjoyments, in remembrance of Jesus’ 40 day fast prior to launching His ministry. It’s a practice worth considering but its not mandated from the scriptures.

However, if this Padre were to be asked, I’d suggest, instead of giving up food or any other enjoyment. Do something helpful for other people, as frequently, as possible. Create a behavior that will become permanent. Like what Jesus encouraged, when He said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” (cp. Matthew 5:9). In other words be nice and do nice things for others. Our world needs a good dose of such behaviors.

dealing with adultery

Jesus had finished teaching a community of people about discipline and forgiveness. Now it was time to move As He traveled, many people followed Him. Maybe because they were intrigued by His abilities to do the unusual. While others were troubled by His apparent willingness to ignore well established traditions.

Among the people were some legal experts. And, they wanted to know His views concerning marriage. So at the appropriate time. They asked Jesus, if it was lawful for couples to divorce for any reason?

Jesus responded saying, “Have you not read that He made them male and female.” Going on to say, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and be joined to his wife, and the two, shall become one. So then, they are no longer two but are now one. Therefore what God has joined let no one separate. (cp. Matthew 19:4-6).

That didn’t satisfy them, so they asked Jesus, “Why did Moses make it legal for a certificate of divorce to be given. Jesus responded, It occurred because of marital infidelity.” Jesus this warning, ‘Remarriage is forbidden except for marital infidelity. Apart from such a cause, remarriage would be an unlawful act of adultery under the Mosaic law. (cp. Matthew 19:7-9).

The Mosaic law is no longer biding. It ended with the cruel murder of Jesus. Brutally nailed, and tortured, He bleed to death. His shed blood made complete atonement for all the Mosaic laws.

Paul reiterates the oneness of married couples. (cp, Ephesians 6:31). But he goes on to call the oneness of married couples a great mystery between we mortals and Christ. (cp. Ephesians 6:32). And concludes, by offering this advice in order to avoid marital infidelity. “Nevertheless let each one, love each other as one loves themselves.” (cp. Ephesians 6:33).

This new approach concerning marital infidelity is not a license to freely engage in such behaviors. Loving ones partner, as one loves one self mostly likely serves as a weak deterrent.

The ultimate deterrent is in and through Jesus Christ. It’s amazing how the word of God strengthens ones resolve not to engage in such behaviors. If you read, and absorb the following scriptures, you will be amazed how sin loses its appeal. You’ll discover that it’s God in you, who is becoming the attitude changer. (cp, Romans 6:1-10).

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Verses 1-2.

Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection. Verses 3-5.

Knowing this, that our old man was crucified  with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. For he, who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe we shall also live with Him. Verses 6-8,

Knowing that Christ having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Verses 9-10.

eternities journey

Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr and Rep John Lewis: Greatness walks across the world stage at the bequest of Divine Providence. Each in their own way knew this, “You formed my inward parts, you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well.” (cp. Psalms 139:13-14}.

And they stepped upon His stage, and made the impossible possible. And at His bequest, they made their exit.

And all who follow, will share in the same whether aware of it or not.

So what happens, when we mortals exit this sphere of existence? Like the one who formed us in our mother’s womb and knitted us together, our souls were fully conscience of His complex and wonderful works. For we are triune beings like our Creator. Upon death the dust will return to the earth as it was. And the spirit will return to Go who gave it. (cp. Ecclesiastes 12:7).

But the soul where does it go? To Hades! It’s a vast reservoir for the of what remains of ones once triune self.

Jesus Himself gives this account about that reservoir. It a huge place because it contains the souls of all people since creation who have died. It is a place divided into two different sections one for the righteous and unrighteous. They are cognizant of each other. Because Jesus shares a dialogue between the two men. It’s clear one is miserable and begs for help. But none is available, while the other is comfortable. (cp. Luke 16:19-31).

This future event will some day determine everyone’s future there. It’s recorded as such. Then I saw a great white throne, and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away. And, there was found no place for them.

And I saw the dead, the small and great, standing before God. And the books were opened, and another book was  opened, which is the Book of Life. And dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in that book.

The sea gave up the dead, who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to their works.

Then death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire.” (cp. Revelation 20:11-15).

So where does that leave the souls of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther, Jr and John Lewis? In that the three have died. We know that their Spirits are with God and their bodies are returning to dust. And souls are in Hades. What is not known by we mortals, is what side of that gulf in Hades is their residence?

If any one of them, and hopefully all three were able to die knowing the following. And if it’s in the affirmative their souls reside in Hades in comfort. Paul asked, Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus where were baptized into His death?

Therefore we were baptized into death, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection. (cp, Romans 6:3-5).

So when, all of humanity is called to give an account of themselves, as discussed above. With their names written in the Book of life, they like we, shall escape the second death.

mending regrets substance of life

“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because all humanity is like grass, and all the glory of humanity as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord lives forever. (cp, 1 Peter 1:24).

Bringing a remorseful reflection common to many from Charles Dickens.

“We need to be careful how we deal with those about us, when every death carries some small circle of survivor thoughts of so much omitted, and so little done about so many things forgotten, and so many more which might have been repaired! There is no remorse so deep as that which is unavailing; if we could be spared its tortures, let us remember in time,” Charles Dickens.

With that in mind: Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom” For as sure as the sun rises and sets, so is this. “Since their days are determined, the number of their months is with you. You have appointed their limits, so that they cannot exceed them” (cp. Psalms 90:12; Job 14:5).

As the sun rises and sets this guaranteed, It’s appointed that mortal like us will die and then judgment will follow. (cp. Hebrews 9:27). Negative consequences of the judgement is an experience that is terrifying as it is horrifying.

But it also can be very fulfilling and thus most rewarding. Plain and simple it doesn’t get any better than the following. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those that believe in Me, though they my die, yet they shall live. And whosoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (cp. John 11:25-26).

This is the age of grace our formula for never dying is found in Romans 10:9-10. Follow those instructions, and become apart of the resurrected Christ eternal family.

vinegar the death drink-Good Friday A

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scriptures might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a jug full of vinegar was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it on javelin, and lifted it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the vinegar, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His Spirit. (Scriptural texts:John 19:28-30).

“But if the Spirit of Him, who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Scriptural text:Romans 8:11).

But there is a prerequisite, it’s found in Romans 10:9-10 which reads, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe with your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

who is this Jesus

Who has believed our report? And to whom is the way of the LORD revealed?

For He shall grow up before Him like a tender plant, and a root out of a dry ground. He has no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.

He is despised, and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and we hid, as it were our faces from Him. He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

Surely He has borne our griefs, and our sorrows, yet we did not esteem Him. Smitten by God and afflicted.

But He was wounded by our transgressions, the chastisement for our peace was beyond Him. Nevertheless, with His stripes we are healed.

All of us like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has sought his own way. And the LORD has laid on Him the sins committed by all of us.

He was disrespected, and He was tortured, yet He did not complain. He was brought as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgement, Who shall declare His innocence from generation to generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living. By His own people He was murdered.

And, He made His grave with the wicked even though no one found Him deceitful, wicked or a person of violence.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him. Though it grieved Him. He made Him an offering for sin. He shall see the suffering He endured. knowing that His Son’ death would justify many. By His willingness to bear their iniquities.

In the finality of it all, He is among the great. Because He willingly gave Himself to death, even though He would be numbered with the transgressors. Bearing their sin, nevertheless, He continued in prayer for His transgressors. (cp. Isaiah 53:1-12).

life is dangerously traumatic

so you can’t beat this. And oh, what a comfort it is. When everybody seems to be looking for a gimmick of one sort, or another, to escape life’s dangerously traumatic collisions that arrive sooner or later in various forms.

stories from the underworld

Religion! What a foul awareness it creates in the minds of more, and more, people every day. Including this Padre, who said goodbye to organized religion a very long time ago. But not to the allegiance of Almighty God to His creation you and me. Intricate truths abound!

The organized church must be seen as a business proposition if one wants to understand its uselessness. They twist scriptural assertions to meet their business interest. This Padre spends a considerable amount of time studying their shenanigans. And indeed, they are maters of deception.  Unfortunately, because of their deception many are going to find themselves in a place that they will regret.

So, what you’re about to read is a tale about life after death. It should not be considered fictional, and therefore, irrelevant! Because it’s a religious perspective. Rather it should be considered an act of mercy. Granted to us by a merciful God, who wanted to give us a preview of what to expect after one dies.

There was certain rich man, who was clothed in fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus full of sores, who was laid at his gate. Desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores.

So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. (Bosom meaning the chest area where secrets are kept).

The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Then he cried and said, “Father Abraham have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame.” (cp. Luke 16:19-24).

Concluding with verse 26, And beside all this, between us, and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.

One thing we can all agree upon. Death is inevitable. It’s just a matter of when, so in the interim period, we do the best that we can to elude death. But in the end, if we are fortunate, the aging process finally wins. And, the soul is ushered to Hades. There its a matter on what side of that great gulf one finds oneself. It to is all about an interim period. Because there is a concluding event for all of humanity. It’s referenced, as the Great White Thorn Judgement. (cp. Revelation 20:11-15).

Want to be sure that all will be okay for you? Apply, Romans 10:9-10.
