Edgar Allen Poe

“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes madly indulge. It has been in the pursuit of pleasures that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of unsupportable loneliness and a dread of some impending doom,” Edgar Allen Poe.

A Poe tale, one suspects, many can identify with. Though it may take many different avenues. Knowing like Poe, its all about the dread of some impending doom.

That fearful dread is death. Recorded as follows. “And as it is appointed for all people to die once, but after that the judgement.” (cp. Hebrews 9:27).

Many among us think that the corpse mourned at the funeral home will soon be put to rest in their grave. Thinking that the departed had met their doom, and are now sleeping in their eternal rest.

There isn’t any such thing as an eternal sleep! Sometime after what appears to be the nothingness of death. Despite what the corpse demonstrates comes the full live consciousness of judgment.

That shell seen in the funeral home is destined to return to what it once was, dust! Illustrated through, Genesis 3:19, the toils of life, “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread. Then you shall return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and dust you shall return.”

Like their Creator, a triune being of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (cp. 1 John 5:7-8). Body, spirit and soul are we, the body becomes dust, the spirit returns to God who gave it. (cp. Ecclesiastes 12:7). And our soul, our conscience self remains alive, but dispatched Hades or Hell. In comfort or tormented suffering waiting the call for judgment. The Hades experience is recorded in Luke 16:19-31.

Then at some predetermined time, “And I (John) saw the dead small and great, standing before God, and  books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by things written in the books. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (cp. Revelation 20:12;14-15).

Those whose account is favorable, and recorded in the Book of Life as such. Will experience God’s creation of a new heaven and earth. But, minus the vast bodies of water that we are familiar with today. (cp. Revelation 21:1. Then notice the festivities, and how different things will be. (cp, Revelation 21:2-7).
