“I was not content to believe in a personal devil. And serve him, in some ordinary sense of the word. I wanted to get hold of him personally and become his chief of stall!
I can imagine myself on my death bed. Spent utterly with lust to touch the next world, like a boy asking for his first kiss from a woman.” Aleister (Alex) Crowley.
On both accounts the British occultist Crowley may have achieved his goals. He considered himself a practitioner of magick (his spelling). Mainly through the religion he founded Thelema) and the books he published.
During World War 1, Crowley, lived in the United States where he contributed to the pro-German newspaper, “The Fatherland.”
His influence lived on after his death at the age of 72. As it seems, he influenced renowned artist like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. (Reference material: Encyclopedia Britannica and goodreads.com).
Satan has his persuasive influences. His father was a rich brewery entrepreneur, who severed his ties with the industry and became an evangelist. But, his son had no interests in Christianity. And led, his life following and emulating his idol, the devil!
Guaranteed Crowley, right now regrets his choices. Because, Crowley is very much alive and in considerable discomfort. Christ has His persuasive influences also, as He used Luke to give us a clear picture of what existence is like after death.
There is a place under our earth called Hades or hell. It separated by an enormous gulf. All souls go there after death. On one side of the gulf souls exists in a state of comfort. While those on the other side, who died absent God’s redemptive grace, and exist in constant torment.
A soul there recognized Abraham, and begged him to dispatched another soul to quench his thirst with water. But that soul was told that it wasn’t possible.
So in desperation wanting to spare his family of such a torturous experience, he begged that someone would be sent to warn them, so that they could avoid his experience.
Not possible because the choice has to be made before Satan captures that soul at death. (cp. Luke 16:19-31).
But there will come a time when everyone will be judged by Jesus Christ. It’s called the great White Throne judgement. All those whose names are not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire. (cp. Revelation 20:11-15).
