“The awful thing is that beauty is mysterious as well as terrible. God, and the devil are fighting there, and the battlefield is the heart of humanity,” Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan was with them. And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?’ So Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
God respected Job, and asked Satan if he was aware of his faithful friend Job. Of course relied Satan, but he’s only your friend because you’ve made him very rich. Take away his wealth, and he’ll curse you to your face. So God said, he’s yours, do as you please, but don’t kill him. (cp. Job 1:6-12).
Job had his troubles and didn’t respond will to them. And the LORD dealt with Job, and finally Job came to his senses. And said, “I know you can do anything, and no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.
Things too wonderful for me, which I did not understand. You said, “I will question you, and you will answer Me!” “I have heard You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes sees You. Therefore, I abhor myself, and I repent. (cp. Job 42:1-6).
And, all turned out well for Job. The LORD restored Job’s losses. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. (cp. Job 42:10).
With the Apostle Paul declaring what appears to be truth is not always truth. Whom did Paul fault, none other than Satan! (cp. 2 Corinthians 11:14).
And from Peter, who was part of Jesus’ inner circle. Declaring he’s like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. (cp. 1 Peter 5:8).
Dostoevsky got it right beauty is mysterious as well as it is terrible. As God, and Satan battle each other for humanities loyalty. And we mortals sometimes are caught in the middle of that conflict. And as Job learned, its all far above our understanding. Maybe Satan has challenged God concerning you or me. With God accepting Satan’s challenge. By allowing our created freedom to decided in the struggle for our loyalties.
Times are different, so don’t expect to audibly hear God’s voice, or to have a face to face experience with Him, as did Job.
No matter the reasons for life’s hardships. Caused intentionally, or by chance, all kinds of destructive attitudes, and behaviors can reek havoc with ones life. For those of us in the age of grace. It works as follows, “In Him we have redemption through His blood the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” (cp. Ephesians 1:7).
Grace can be mysterious because it can suddenly come upon one unexpectedly. Some like me through infant baptism and through catechism classes was granted church membership.
Never experienced grace through those experiences. But grace was experienced decades later as follows. “I was found by those who did not seek Me. I was made manifest to those who did not ask of Me.” (cp. Romans 10:20).
Here are some experiences thought that I’d share. This experience has always been at the forefront of my memory. My baptism as an infant being held in my mothers arms. Looking into the eyes of that priest during the course of that ritual. I remember his clergy attire and his facial appearance.
Obsession with the huge family Bible as an infant. Couldn’t read but remember being fascinated by the pictures. My mother would rush over, and take it away from me. Putting it in new hiding place. But I’d find it, and the process reoccurred. Until finally she succeeded in hiding it never to be rediscovered again. To this day, I wonder and long for procession of that Bible. My mother was murdered and my life has never been the same. Took me decades to recover! So I still wonder, what ever happened to that Bible.
Angelic appearances as an infant causing me to became aware of my calling to be a priest. Still have those appearances, however, now they’re very different.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. To the praise of the glory of His grace which He made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace. Which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His pleasure which He purposed in Himself. That in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on the earth. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance being predestined according to the purpose of Him, who works all things according to the council of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. In whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. Who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (cp. Ephesians 1:3-14).
