During tumultuous times like these most are looking for an anchor. Something that provides hope for the future no matters how grim that future might look.
For me there are different anchors depending on the situation. Lately I’ve been dwelling on this particular group of scriptures.
“Do you not know that as many of us were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death.
Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life.
For if, we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.
Knowing this that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
For they, who have died are free from sin!
Now if we died with Christ, we believe we shall also live with Him.
Knowing that Christ having been raised from the dead dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
For the death that He died, He died to sin for all, but the life He lives He lives to God.” (cp. Romans 6:3-10).
For the people, who have been redeemed by the shed blood of Jesus. We look like those, who have elected to remain unredeemed. But that’s just a shell of who we really are. We are like the resurrected Christ, and like Him, we will some day have a resurrected body like His. That will never again know tumultuous days of any kind.
Here’s glimpse of that body. It will be a body for lack of a better expression. That can travel by thought. A new day had dawned Jesus had risen from the dead. Jesus was eating with His disciples. When suddenly, He vanished from their sight. (cp. Luke 24:30-31) The saga goes this way. “…., saying the Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Peter! Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, Peace to you.” But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they had seen a ghost. (cp. Luke 24:36-39).
Why were they terrified because Jesus had to magically disappeared. Then frightened because Jesus had not been seen approaching them from a distance. As far as they knew he was nowhere near them. The suddenly, as out of no where, He appeared among them. Jesus arrived unexpectedly among them by thought travel. That is our future and more!
