“Be careful who call your friends. I’d rather have four quarters than on hundred pennies,” Al Capone.
No one ever experienced that more fully than Jesus. Then one of the twelve called Judas Iscariot went to the chief priest and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And, they gave him thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought how he might betray Jesus. (cp. Matthew 26:14-16).
Then one of His most trusted confidants betrayed Him not once but three times. A certain woman seeing Peter by the fire looked at him intently and said, “That man was also with Him.” But Peter replied saying, “Woman I do not know Him.”
And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are one of them!” But Peter said, “I am Not!” Then after about an hour had passed, another with certainty declared, “Absolutely, that fellow was also with Him, for he is a Galilean!” But Peter angrily replied, “Man I do not understand what you are saying!”
Immediately while Peter was still speaking a rooster crowed. And Jesus turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the words of Jesus, how he had said, “Before the rooster, you will deny Me three times.” (cp. Luke 22:56-61).
“In the end it’s not money or friendship that counts. It’s integrity. Jesus was betrayed twice by those within His inner circle. One for money and the other self perseverance.
Integrity this how it plays out. David, Jesus and many others reaped its rewards.”By this I know that You are well pleased with me because my enemy does not triumph over me. As for me, You hold me in my integrity, and have set me before Your face forever.” (cp. Psalms 41:11-12).
Integrity is the force that brings people to step forward and do the seemingly impossible. For Jesus it unfolded as follows, “Insomuch then, as the children have partaken of flesh and blood. He Himself likewise shared in the same. That through death He might destroy him who had the power of death. That is the devil.” (cp. Hebrews 2:14).
And many others followed and the stream will even after this historic age ends. With earthlings moving into the next era of time. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even to their death.” (cp. Revelation 12:11).
