A lion, a donkey and a fox formed a partnership and went hunting. When they had taken a quantity of game, the lion told the donkey to divide it in equal shares. Upon completing the task, He said, “Mr, lion choose one.” But the lion leapt upon him and devoured him. Then he told the fox to divide it. The fox collected all of it in one pile. Leaving a few trifles for himself. Telling the lion to make his choice. The lion asked, “Who taught you to share things that way?” The fox responded, “What happened to the donkey!”
We learn wisdom by seeing the misfortunes of others. (source:Penguin Classic-Fables of Aesop-“Taught By Experience).
However it is found, once found this is the value of wisdom. And the people, who gain from her understanding. Discover that her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain greater than fine gold. And all the things you may desire can not be compared with her. Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness and her paths bare peace. She is a tree of life to those, who take hold of her. And, happy are all who retain her.” (cp. Proverbs 3:13-18).
And, so it has been said, wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom, and with all of getting get understanding. (cp. Proverbs 4:7).
But O, how elusive her gems can be. With most experiencing a donkey like fate, so many times. And some if fortunate, like the fox learn to get by. That leaves the few, who must work very hard to benefit from her tree of life.
