You’ve heard it said best of friends can become the worst of enemies. That might have been the relationship God had with Satan. Because at one time God referred to him as Lucifer meaning brightness.
In Ezekiel, we have this glimpse between the two. Said the Lord God unto him.”You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering …. You were the anointed cherub …. I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God …. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you…. and you sinned; therefore, I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you …. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you. You defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities …. therefore; I brought fire from your midst, it devoured you, and I turned you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all who saw you. All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you. You have become a horror, and shall be no more forever.” (scriptural texts:Ezekiel 28:12b-19).
Isaiah adds this to the mix. “How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How are you cast to the ground, who did weaken the nations. Because you said in your heart. I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God …. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High. Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see you shall narrowly look upon you, and consider you saying, is this the man, who made the earth to tremble, who did shake kingdoms? Who made the world like a wilderness, and destroyed its cities, who opened not the house of his prisoners?” (scriptural texts Isaiah 14:12-17).
From those verses we have a friendship ruined; and a description, for what is ailing individuals, and plaguing the community of nations.
Some say all good things have to end, wrong, good things never end. Set backs might occur but good never end because God said so. Ultimately, we’ll have a new heaven and earth. With focal point being Jerusalem where the King of kings will rule. After, He has made right all the wrongs enumerated above. It’s all evil things that must end, again because God said so!
Now the end! With the aforementioned scriptures having their final say From the living breathing Word of God. Where we find a trio of characters cast into hell. “And the devil, that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire, and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.” See Revelation 20:10. We know from the aforementioned scriptures, who the devil is. Lucifer the predetermined bright jewel of God’s creation, perfect in all his ways, who shared God’s Garden in Eden with his Creator. But who turned against Him to challenge His deity, by determining to become God.
The beast some think is the Roman papacy. With false prophet being the antichrist, who will will emerge as a global political leader. Both receiving their power from the great dragon that old serpent called the Devil and Satan. (Scriptural text: Revelation 17:13; Revelation 12:9). “And the beast was taken and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, which deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshiped his image. Both were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with with brimstone. (scriptural text:Revelation 19:20; 20:10). They be tormented for ever and ever.
That will not be the fate of everyone a minority declares. According to Malachi 4:1, mere human beings thrown into the lake of fire will be destroyed. But they will not be tormented through out all eternity. A concept without eternal torment in the fires of hell. Should it catch fire it would be a disaster for the clergy of doom and gloom. Such schemes keep the pews well occupied and the bank accounts enriched.
While the devil who is non-human, along with his angels, who became demons, they are the ones tormented forever. (scriptural text:Matthew 25:41). And of course Satan’s chief confidants, the anti-Christ and the false prophet, as already noted.
