“The foundations of national morality must be laid in private families. How is it possible that children can have any Sense of sacred Obligations of Morality or Religion, if from their earliest infancy they learn their Mothers live in habitual infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in constant infidelity to their mothers?” John Adams, diary, 02 June 1778.
Not much has changed in 235 years of parenthood. Except maybe it’s more common and out in the open. With greater family and public acceptability. America is becoming a society of defiant decadent people. Displaying little shame for such behaviors. While giving children little reason to celebrate Dad’s gone bad.
But a tale can be told many ways, as is the case with the following. “Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, BUT ESTABLISH THE JUST; for the righteous. God tests the minds and the hearts. My defense is with God, who saves the upright in heart. God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day,” Psalms 7:9-11. With infidelity being a great wickedness upon the participants and their families which makes God very angry.
But to the many faithful Dad’s and Mom’s, for the sake of their children, this truly is Dad’s day. Making it a festive family affair. Giving children a festive desire to honor their Dad’s this day.
Fidelity doesn’t happen by chance but from discipline. Because these Dad’s defense is with God, as a shield from such infidelities. These Dad’s endured the test of the mind and heart. And God has saved these Dad’s, pure in heart, from such destructive infidelities. And thus, helping to bring the Psalmist his desired plea, “Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked end, BUT ESTABLISH THE JUST; for the righteous,” And, thus these Dad’s are! So son’s and daughter’s, mother’s too, celebrate a truly special Dad, who in God’s sight is righteous.
The LORD bless you Dad’s and keep you. The LORD make his face shine upon such Dad’s and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up his countenance upon such Dad’s and give you peace, Amen.
Making this Father’s Day truly a family affair.
