Ancient lessons 4 a modern world as the supernatural stikes

July 30th, 2017

Elijah after being told by an angel that he wasn’t man enough to make the 40 day journey without  eating a supernatural charged food, one suspects. Because after eating, Elijah successfully completes his journey. Only to have the word of the LORD ask, “What are you doing here?” Apparently his answer was accepted because Elijah was given a new directive.

But before addressing that directive, if you haven’t, it’s suggested that the reader study the previous discussions. As some of what appears in the above paragraph could be ambiguous to the reader.

Elijah was concerned over what was occurring because the trend was to absent God from the public forum. In order to accomplish that society went about killing those who stood for God. At one point, he tells God that things have gotten so bad that he stands alone in defending what God expects from the people, and that his own life is in danger.

And the word of the LORD, says, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice,” 1 Kings 19:11-12.

Think how terrifying it would be to know of winds so mighty that mountains were leveled in your lifetime and right before your eyes. Followed by earthquakes destroying large land masses which created impossible to control fires.

These truths stand out to be examined. What occurred happened before the LORD, as an observer. Because we are told that the LORD passed by, but had nothing to do with aftermath of each destructive force. Telling us that like the Ravens, even the elements serve and obey him without question.

It is only God’s most cherished creation man, to whom he gave freedom to choose that defies him, then and today. That was Elijah’s complaint! And everything that followed was a response to humanities defying of what, was and is, sacredly recorded by the word of the LORD.

And so it is, in our modern world. Natures violent eruptions are are supernatural strikes against an erring and defying people.

And then we have these words, “And after the fire a still small voice.” For Elijah, it was a new assignment, 15-16. And verse 18, Elijah is assured that 7,000 remain faithful.

For us the believing faithful, that still small voice speaks to each in a personal and specific manner. And we have the assurance that the gates of hell will not prevail against whatever that still small voice says to each and everyone of us. (Matthew 16:18)

From previous two discussions, and with this one, the mighty should be dumbfounded. With the menu’s of divine providence always prevailing. For tomorrow help comes from where it’s least expected. Because God, has a date with destiny.
