FATHER: So its no big deal for you to get a hair cut?
FATHER: When I was your age, a haircut was a monumental event! The way a guy wore his hair was a statement! It was his identity!
SON: That’s so shallow!
FATHER: I guess it was.
SON: Judge a person not by his appearance, but by the coolness of his cell phone. (source:Comic strip Zits)
Of course gadgets, whether in the expression of haircuts, cell phones or any other statement about appearances, in themselves are acceptable. They become unacceptable when they are the defining element of a person. With that being the defining conflict of all time. It just manifests it self differently from generation to generation. Which is not only true for individuals, like Casey Anthony but also for the community of nations.
The LORD said, do not be impressed with coolness … I see things from a different perspective which is the inward quality of the heart. Because the desires of the heart, defines who you really are, 1 Samuel 16:7. Party girl seems to have defined Casey, before motherhood.
Jesus felt the same way when He said, all those things are corruptible. With some of them being valuable. Where thieves will attempt to steal them. Instead consider where your treasure is because there will be your heart also. With verse 21 defining the quality of the heart. Which in return, defines ones outward behavior, Matthew 6:19-21.
And to the shame of Casey, a thief stole Caylee. Whether innocent, or guilty, God knows and so does the thief. But this seem rather apparent, Casey’s heart was not with her treasure, Caylee. May God have no mercy on the thief!
Like the father, who finally realized that such treasures in the end are shallow. Many come to that realization, as time passes but sometimes it is to late.
The ultimate treasure is described this way with the following occurring. ” My soul is thirsty for God. The living God, when shall I come and appear before God? Psalms 42:2.
This we know, the thief will someday appear before God. Most likely, not in a mood of thirst for God, but judgment. WISDOM 4 THE AGES: Let us hear the conclusion the whole matter. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this the duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.
Treasures are also a New Testament theme. Pursue your treasures based upon Jesus Christ. Which is the natural pursuit for those of us risen in Christ. Waiting for a future time whether dead or currently living because life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our treasure and life will appear. Then shall we also appear with him in glory, Colossians 3:1-4.
I tell you this, everyone is susceptible to the, Casey Anthony, syndrome while trapped in this sphere of darkness. But it is more unlikely to occur, when the newness of life in Christ has been ones experience.
The darker the darkness, the more brighter the light. Therefore; if any person be in Christ, they are new creations. Old things are passed away; BEHOLD! All things are become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Now, this is the will of God. He saved us! And has called us with a holy calling which is not according to our own works, but according to his own purpose and grace. Which was given to us in Christ Jesus, before the world began, 2 Timothy 1:9.
So, find your holy calling, and execute his purpose through his grace. And maybe there will be fewer thieves.
