Jesus was the master of the usage of metaphors when connecting the likeness between ideas, truths and actions. For example, in Matthew 10:34, these words appear. “Think not that I come to bring peace on earth; I come not to bring peace but a sword.” In the previous posting when writing about the disappearances of all the necessities for personal and national prosperity. This connection between ideas, truths and actions was presented. With the sword metaphorically being a call to arms for the church to fight against unrighteousness as pictured in that posting.
Though said previously in that posting, it is worth repeating because it amplifies our problems and our solutions and what is to be further discussed here. Capture, and master these three thoughts, and you will understand the souring mood of world conditions transpiring before our very eyes.
First,”It is a war down hear with God pleading for righteousness and Satan pleading for the opposite. The God plan plays out much better. Because God, offers individual and nation state redemption. Which leads to the well of prosperity as pictured for us in Genesis 49:22. And as seen in Malachi 4:2, where the metaphor is one of God, as the ‘Sun of Righteousness’ with ‘healing in his wings.’ Suggesting prosperity as the maturing of the calves in the barn.” Which can not occur without the nourishment of water, and sun. Water and sun are powerful Biblical symbols always suggesting newness which leads fullness of life. When people as individuals or as nations honor our God ordered edicts. But failure to do so, makes it all being applicable to the crashing of world economic conditions. Global droughts threatening food supplies perhaps through global warming, note Malachi 4:1. Is that what is happening today? I have no way of knowing, but it does follow Biblical history, as to how God deals with unrighteousness.
Next, “The angel of darkness, that great Dragon, that old Serpent, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world, Revelation 12:9, offers just the opposite. It is said, ‘woe unto the inhabitants of the earth,’ verse 13 of Revelation 12.” With the world feeling the tightening pain of such a simple truth.
Then, It all comes to this, those who do not take up the cause of the cross and engage themselves in this struggle for righteousness are not worthy of Christ’s bountiful blessing which are associated with Genesis 49:22, Malachi 4:2, anchored in the truth of Matthew 10:38.
Which sets the stage for the considerations of some more of Christ’s metaphors, ones which often confuse people. Because they can not accept the notion that God would expect such a price to be paid. What is to follow spoken by Christ should be taken metaphorically and not literally. Christ employs the following as metaphors. To emphasize the elements of seriousness for the task facing the church.
“For I am come to set a man against his father, and the daughter against her mother-law,” Matthew 10:35.
“And a person’s foes, they shall be of his own household,” verse 36.
“He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loves sons and daughters more than me is not worthy of me,” verse 37.
“And they that take not the cross and follow me, is not worthy of me,” verse 38.
He that finds his life shall lose it; and they that lose their life for my sake shall find it,” verse 39.
“They that receive you, receive me, and they that receives me, receives him that sent me, verse 40.
Verses 38 and 40 shows the way for individual and national prosperity. It is how the church satisfies God’s grievances or *controversies against the nations,* Jeremiah 25:31. It is how the branches climb the walls from the filled wells of water, Genesis 49:22. Climatically returned by the *Sun of Righteousness with healing in his wings, so as return prosperity metaphorical pictured as the growing calves in the barn, Malachi 4:2.
With the verses of Matthew 10:35,36,37 and 39 teaching the all consuming energy required, so as to metaphorically suggest the separation from family. Done with such intensity that the cause of Christ is more important than ones own life which is the lesson of verse 39.
